Wow, are you watching the movement to improve education ignite in Little Rock? First we had 600 people rally at the Arkansas Capitol on Saturday. (https://t.e2ma.net/click/2p1bo/68243d/2pljnd) Yesterday we followed up with 150 students, faith leaders, parents, educators and community leaders rallying in front of the Arkansas Department of Education to continue our demands for:
Return to local control of our schools with an elected school board.
Freeze expansion of charters or granting of waivers until we have control in a locally elected school board.
Reverse the decision to fire Mr. Kurrus for doing his job and make a sensible transition plan that includes community input if they want to replace Mr. Kurrus.
Specific plans to improve educational outcomes at each Little Rock school.
A process to engage and unite our whole community in a positive direction forward for Arkansas.
Here is a Channel 4 story on yesterday's rally (https://t.e2ma.net/click/2p1bo/68243d/iimjnd)and here is the story in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette (https://t.e2ma.net/click/2p1bo/68243d/yanjnd). Our Executive Director has an op-ed in this weeks Arkansas Times (https://t.e2ma.net/click/2p1bo/68243d/e3njnd) calling the process Commissioner Key is using rigged and incompetent, and calling on the Governor to step in and fix the mess his administration has made.
