On THURSDAY the State Board of Education will make a decision that could have long lasting impacts on the Little Rock School District. Two charter schools in Little Rock have applied to expand by nearly 3,000 students. This expansion will be approved unless the Arkansas Board of Education votes on March 10th to review the applications.
This is TOO IMPORTANT TO NOT REVIEW. The State Board of Education took over LRSD a little more than a year ago, removing the elected school board. The new LRSD Superintendent has had less than a year to turn things around. The expansion of the LISA and eStem charters has the potential to undermine the fragile progress LRSD students are making.
